I have a question, I live in The Links, wheeler ranch new home division in Plumas Lake, We are infesteed with Ticks, Our yards, the parks, the countless empty fields with foundations poured. On our street in the last 2 weeks, 3 adults and 3 children have had ticks attached to them. As homeowners we are having our yards sprayed but what about the empty fields, parks and foreclosed houses? Please advise if you can, I spoke with Houa at Yuba County Environmental Health and they cannot help me. Anyone know who can?

Yuba County
Hi again, Laycie. I spoke with a couple of people and have at least a couple of ideas for you. Unfortunately, the county does not have the resources to keep down tick infestations in fields. I tracked down our Code Enforcement Officer, and he said the best thing you can do is keep the grass short in and near your yard. He said local fire districts will come in and mow down the lawns of foreclosed homes if those yards grow to become fire hazards, but neighbor can certainly do the work, as well. I spoke with my son -- who used to work at Yuba-Sutter Mosquito Abatement and Vector Control -- and he said you can have them come out and spray for mosquitoes and then sweet talk them into perhaps spraying some of the surrounding grasses. The spay works on fleas and I believe also on ticks. Anyway, that's all the information I have for you. It's not terrible helpful, but at least provides some suggestions. Good luck in your tick battle. Russ

Yuba County one more quick note (just heard from my son again.. in San Diego). He said to check and see if you can get Vector Control to do a weekly "fogging" along the field edge of your property... which would provide more of a long term solution.
